Exile (Lashes Instead)

(Also from “guilty” verdict)

(Q) Derivation:

(Being that this is an exceptional case of receiving lashes, it needs its own verse and cannot be learned from the previous law)

(A) Gezeirah Shava. Two verses have the word “rotze’ach,” murderer, in them and,  therefore, they are compared. One is regarding a deliberate murderer, and one is regarding an inadvertent murderer.

“The rotze’ach (murderer) shall die,” (Bemidbar 35,16)

“That a rotze’ach (murderer) May flee there,” (Devarim 4,42)
